Explain how a glass ball will work without a seal (at end of tube)or you put the fluid in and the glass ball floats on top?

Or put the brake drum on backwards and screw on 3 lug nuts part way and use the drum as a slide hammer.

Check the axle bearings and maybe replace the seals .Those seals could be wore out.

To bad you didn't have a tubing wrench. Yes line to the gauge can be repaired . Williamson's in AS or Wolf & Co in OH.

Here is on the left original 32-35 Ford gas gauge fluid that I still have. Years ago I found a NOS bottle just like "deuce roadster" has. On the right is what the vendors sold in the air line kit...
