Re: Engine Problem

I believe the "J" series threads are ok for clearance...actually a bit shorter than the correct H10 Champion threads...BUT the "Y" suffix means extended tip and that may be a problem as the valve...

Re: 41 Distributor Helmet Style - Dwell

I've done it,but with a 12v modern coil and appropriate ballast resistor. Worked fine...as expected since it is really the same as a later single point distributor. I figure Ford used the dual points...

Re: A-team performance distributor issues

If it were me,I'd start by installing the gold (lightest) springs and the black bushing.

Re: 41 Distributor Helmet Style - Dwell

That connection should be correct. However, if your car is still positive ground you may need to connect the neg lead to the coil and pos to the ground to make it work. That assumes the meter will...

Re: 1947 Ford Super Deluxe Generator getting hot

Everyone's idea of "hot" can vary. Remember, the generator is directly behind a radiator that's blowing heated air on it. Feel some other engine components in the gen's vicinity...are they similar?...

Yes, please. I'm interested in seeing the pics since my '41 Merc is in need of the same thing. Thank you!

Availability in Norway is the problem. Our inch based hardware isn't so common there. Having said that,...

Re: Question on Cam Gear Marks - UPDATE

Dwell in the 34-36 degree range will be about right.

It finally cooled off here...last couple weeks have been pretty nice in 70's and 80's. I do hate the summer weather, especially when our...

Re: Question on Cam Gear Marks - UPDATE

I believe LH set is timing of the spark. RH side provides longer dwell time. Since RH side opens earlier it seems (in my mind anyway ) that if the LH side were not making contact for any...

Re: Question on Cam Gear Marks - UPDATE

Congrats on fixing the mechanical problems, Russ. My money's on the shorter valve springs having been the trouble.
Now...is there any way this thing's trying to run on just the passenger side...

Re: 41 mostly stock 6v posted ground - adding a fan

I drive a '41 Merc with a nice 260" flathead. The radiator is in good shape and all tins are in place. This summer in 95-103 degree (F) heat the car ran the exact same temps (185-195) as it did when...

Re: 38 ford alternator

Have you had the alternator tested for correct output? Reason I ask is because a bad diode can cause a distinct whine in an alternator but also reduces the output. A shorted stator winding can do the...

Re: Carbon on plugs and piston tops

I believe Ronnie was likening the carbon buildup on a flathead piston and its attendant heat rejection qualities to the more recent application of modern coatings on pistons of later model engines.

Just last week measured one of Skip's recent coils we installed on a '47 belonging to a friend. 1.2 ohms on my Fluke brand meter.

Re: Delco distributor on my flathead now

After closer examination, the reluctor and pickup coil closely resemble Chrysler.

Re: NGK Plugs

Me too. B6L in an 8BA style Merc slightly "warmed up". Plugs look just right. Milled 8CM iron heads.
