Re: Coil + or -

I want to add to your comment: It will run if connected the wrong way, just not as good.

Re: Play in rear axle

If the play is up and down there is no problem. The axle is held in the center by the bearing. If it is in and out along the axis of the shaft I will let other more knowledgeable people comment. ...

Re: positive to negative change

Here is a photo of the battery. Looks like a standard auto parts store battery that hasn't been tampered with. It is probably just an optical illusion but the ground cable looks like it is...

Re: Commerical Head lights

And since the CCPU didn't have cowl lights each reflector had places for 2 bulbs (like the standard passenger cars).

Re: Broken Tap Solution

There are a lot of shops in the Los Angeles area that specialize in removing broken taps and bolts, probably due to the aerospace industry. You might ask around to see if there is anything in your...

Re: 40 Ford serial # location... update

Sounds fishy. Is there any damage to the top of the left frame rail that might have obliterated the original number? Are the numbers the correct font? Do they match the title? How about a picture?...

Re: Headlight options for 6v

Be sure to do the high wattage/high usage ones first since they will give you the greatest payback.

Re: Headlight options for 6v

When I changed my house over a couple of years ago COSTCO had the best price. The change definitely pays for itself (probably in about a year).

Re: Walter won't start !

Check points gap. Pay attention to too much gap not allowing the points to close and the coil to charge. Remember, unlike the old days, new does not necessarily mean good. Did you get a high...

Re: Drum/hub questions

If you are going to sell them don't spend the time. If I was looking to buy I would not buy ones that someone of unknown skill had removed. If you are going to install new hubs have the same shop...

Re: Lost it all

My time machine backs up to an external hard drive (made by Lacie). It cost about $100 at the MAC Store and has a couple of terabytes of space. I needed one this large because I have a lot of...

Re: 47 front brakes

The shop that turned them should have measured their diameter. If they are over 12.060 they are junk and you shouldn't use them.

Re: 47 front brakes

Unless he installs them on the earlier hubs. If he does that the assembly will work fine on his '47.

Re: 47 front brakes

The early drums have the hub on the inside and the later ones have the hub on the outside. You can't mix them. They interchange on the 1940-48 vehicles as a hub/drum assembly without problems.

Re: 47 front brakes

Replacing the drums on the hubs is a job for someone that knows what they are doing and has a 20 ton press. Contact a local Model A or early V8 Ford Club and see who the members use. Don't leave...

Re: 302 in a 33/34 pickup

Be sure to search the archives about the later engines versus the pre '48 engines. I can remember reading a lot about them being difficult to install.

Re: 37 wiper motor restoration

When you say oil I hope you plan to use something that will be gentle on the seals like ATF. Try moving the blade and suck some ATF in through the hole where the hose attaches.

Re: 302 in a 33/34 pickup

I would have the flathead rebuilt if it was me. If you go for an all out high performance flathead it won't be reliable. A stock one will be reliable. What is wrong with the engine in the truck...

Re: Tire changers, do you use the DIY units?

Also.

Don't cut the tube by getting it between the rim and the tire iron.
Don't pinch the tube between the tire and the rim.
Inflate the tube and then let the air out to get it properly...
