Re: Shock Absorber Fluid

Thanks. I’m still new at this. I’m surprised that a reproduction has the patent number stamped on it. But, then again, if it is an “authorized” Ford part, maybe that would explain it.

Re: Shock Absorber Fluid

Hmmm... I'm curious, would aftermarket shocks typically be marked with "“HYDRAULIC SUSPENSION PAT 1087017” 1426115-1499660"?

Re: Needle Tip Oil Bottles that Seem to Work Well on the Distributor

Maybe so. They seemed to put oil where I wanted it, in a controlled fashion, without making a mess.

Re: Changing engine oil...

The previous owner of my car told me that he had the engine rebuilt at Schwalm’s, and he told me to change the oil every 1000 miles. He was using 10W30 oil.

Re: What are some of the counter intuitive things you have learned about a Model A?

I added "22)" for non-standard fasteners that I found on my Model A.

I added "23)" for shocks.

Needle Tip Oil Bottles that Seem to Work Well on the Distributor

In case anyone is interested, these needle tip oil bottles from Amazon.com seem to work well for oiling the hole in the distributor cam screw (if your car is so equipped) and the slide oiler at the...

Re: Shock Absorber Fluid

Based on what I read in Les Andrews book, I think this will be one of the big issues. It looks like too big a job for me at the moment. The plug threads were rusted. I suspect the cover threads will...

Shock Absorber Fluid

Thanks for the tip. I see this rebuild kit from Bratton's.

Shock Absorber Fluid

It looks like Snyder’s and Bratton’s carry the filler plugs.

Yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised if I end up with four puddles too.

Re: Shock Absorber Fluid

It turns out all four filler plugs have stripped threads, and all four shocks were at least 1 ounce low on fluid. I suspect they were almost dry, but I don’t know their fluid capacity.

I only...

Re: Shock Absorber Fluid

Also, can anyone tell me the fluid capacity of the shocks? The first one took 1.5 ounces to reach the bottom of the filler hole. The second one looks to be about the same.

Re: Shock Absorber Fluid

I just learned that at least two of the filler plugs have stripped threads. Is that common? What are my options?

Shock Absorber Fluid

This is the first time I have checked shock absorber fluid levels on my car, and I am confused with conflicting guidance. I have a 1931 Victoria with what appears to be original design shocks. When I...

Re: Question about 1930 Model A PU Truck with missing grease fittings

I bought my zerks from Bratton’s, and they are a very tight fit. I would recommend using a socket that you don’t mind throwing away (or using only on zerk insertion) because the heavy pounding will...

Re: Rear Hub Assembly

I’ve used that on my horn internals, but it never occurred to me that Scotch Brite would be useful on an axle spindle. I plan to try that the next time I have it apart. Thanks for the tip.

I cleaned it the best I could while I had it apart. I never thought about polishing. How would you polish it?
