Re: Excessive crank end float.

Hi Mart.. take the soft option. You could look at metal spraying the trust surfaces of the bearings. Then mill or sand them to suit. I like Brian's idea.
Just a thought.

Re: Transmission goes 'boing'

Interesting.. there is a splined connection from the tail shaft of the gearbox to the universal. I think that coupling is lubed from the gearbox. I might change the gearbox oil from ep90 to 600 and...

Gearbox growls in top gear only when I hold over the stick when driving down the road

I overhauled the 3 speed 1946 p/u box with new bearings and second gear and synchro cones etc. All looked snazzy. What could be causing the noise? It occurs only if I lean on the gear lever when...

Re: Removing cleanout plugs-Merc Crank

I've only pulled the plugs out of my C59A crank. I wonder if the Canadian ones are different. It's possible that some previous owner may have installed the threaded bungs as the crank had been...

Re: Removing cleanout plugs-Merc Crank

Hi Shoebox.. those cleanout plugs just screw in and out. They have a hex head for a spanner. I found there was nothing to be gained by taking them out. Just the experience.

Re: 59A Flatty. A good candidate for rebuild? It's full of sludge!
