Re: emergency radiator repair

Another trick my granpa told me about. Burn some cork, then put the ash in the oil to reduce blue smoke out the tailpipe due to bad rings.

Re: Got One - Now the VIN search

If you have a valid title, buy a stamping set from harbor freight or ebay and stamp that number onto the engine and suitable other locations as you see fit. Problem solved. And no matter what some...

Re: A Chinese radiator in a Model A?!!!

Opinions are like armpits, everyone has a couple. So far, there is one person who has posted an opinion based on experience... and it sounds pretty positive.

Re: Is fuel bubbling normal

If you are getting excessive heat, yes gas will boil at somewhere around 200+ degrees F, depends on the blend. If the timing is incorrect, then there will be excessive heat. If all is running fine,...

Re: starting issues with spare engine on stand

Put a voltmeter on the starter power terminal and see if power stays on when pushing the starter engage. If it does, then check starter switch or starter itself. If voltage drops when trying to...

Re: tires

6.50 vs 6.00 = 1/2 inch. They'll work just fine.

Re: Battery in wrong

Your getting a bunch of junk info. #1 DETERMINE THE POLARITY THE CAR IS SET UP FOR. From factory the A was positive ground, however lots of people convert them to negative ground. #2 Determine if the...

Re: Battery in wrong

If it has been converted to negative ground, then leave it. Quick way is to look at the polarity of the coil.

Re: Square tires

Have you ran it for some time on these tires? I've had this happen, but after some miles the tires will work out the flat spot, especially on a hot day. We had -40 F this morning. My work vehicle...

Re: Model A Charcoal Heaters

The type posted in #5 ive seen a lot of at swap meets. Usually sell for up to $10. Fill the little drawer with embers out of the coal or wood stove. Would produce quite a bit of heat.

Re: Insurance

Some companies have restrictions, some don't. Price also varies, but is generally very cheap. Mine runs less than 200 per year, no restrictions except that I own more than just the A.

Re: 6 Volt coil issues

One side of the coil should have power all the time, the other will be grounded only when the points are closed AND the ignition switch is in the ON position. First, with ignition switch off, use a...

Re: OD power loss

Your OP is not clear, has the setup been running properly and then this just happened? Is this a new setup? Did the performance decline gradually? Suddenly? Answering these questions will, I believe,...

Re: Sand Blast Box air pressure

I like lower pressure and lots of volume, at least 25 or 30 cfm.If you can't get the cfm you need, you can buy smaller tips. I use the ceramic tips, work well and are cheap and easy to replace....

Re: Possible Radiator Problem???

Exactly. When the radiator is partially plugged, the lowest pressure of the whole system is in the engine block. Lower pressure = lower boiling point = coolant flashing to steam = expansion of...

Re: Tire sizes again for 16"

Here's a nice tire, anything narrow costs a pretty penny although these aren't as bad as some. https://www.cokertire.com/tires/styles/radial-tires/vredestein-sprint-classic-narrow-tread.html

Re: Tire sizes again for 16"

The look of those tires on a model A reminds me of when my daughters were small. They would put on my shoes and clomp around the house. :)

Re: Slow leak

Bring your leaky tire to an old fashioned service station in farm country and have it fixed. A modern tire shop won't know what to do with a tubed tire. No reason to replace the tube unless its...

Re: Touring with other Model A's - How does your club communicate

Get two! Then you have someone to talk to. I have found them to work flawlessly. Crisp, loud audio, somewhat noise cancelling mic.

Re: Adjusting the timing for hilly driving..

No way to know! 3/4 verses full advance on the lever is very subjective, depends on the car. Need to listen to the engine to really know. A few years ago someone on one of the forums was insisting...

Re: What strange comments or questions have you heard about your Model A

I have a 29 Fordor. The Fordors had the smooth cowl in 29, where the Tudors and such didn't. I've had several people just INSIST that my Fordor is a 30-31 because of the cowl. One guy stopped me as...

Re: 6 volt to 12 volt converter

the converters work just fine. However, it is such an easy setup to wire 6 volt signals, it seems like going a mile to save 10 steps. Having said that some of the kits sold are nothing but...
