Re: Really old gasoline question

This is out of the tank of my old Econoline truck! No wonder the fuel pump was not working! Also.....explains all the crud in the tank which I am still in process of draining. What in the world...

Re: Really old gasoline question

10 gallons of gas here would be $38.90. I will probably just keep it for washing parts.

Really old gasoline question

While not directly a Model A question, but maybe related. I have a 1977 Ford Econoline flatbed truck that has not been driven for several years. I'm in the process of draining the gas tank to...

Re: Side Mirror Installation Tips Needed

It turns out the second pin was harder to remove than the first. After I had used the longer pin pusher, I tried to drive the hinge pin out with a longer punch and a hammer. That didn't work! I...

Re: Side Mirror Installation Tips Needed

I was so happy with my driver's side hinge mirror and how easily the pin came out, that I ordered one for the passenger side. I decided to get a head start on removing the current hing pin and ran...

Re: Side Mirror Installation Tips Needed

Next time I am in town I will check with Ace Hardware. I have to drive 13 miles each way and use more than a gallon of gas at $3.89 a gallon....so unless there is some other reason to drive, I will...

Re: Side Mirror Installation Tips Needed

I installed my hinge mirror today. I used the pin removal tool from Snyders and it worked easily. I soaked the pin with PB Blaster last night and did not have any problem at all.

The only...

Re: Fire wall grommet

Thanks, I think that it must be for a 1930-31. The kit says it is for 1928-1931, so that would explain it.

Re: Fire wall grommet

This is the choke rod grommet that came with my kit. I know the leather washer and metal cup washer go in the engine compartment against the spring. However, this grommet is said to go on the...

Re: Radiator cooked corn??

The dried corn must have been tucked away in the top of the radiator sometime when the cap was off. I bought this radiator on eBay.....so it might have been a chipmunk or pack rat hiding place from...

Radiator cooked corn??

Well....! I went for a drive today and stopped to talk to some friends and the radiator started boiling over. I drove up the hill to my house and figured I would take a look. I forgot that even with...

Re: Tricks to remove cutout cover?

Thanks. I think I will grind a little and give it a shot of PB. My old coupe will never be for show....after decades of time in Southeast Alaska and now in the high desert. The damp wood and rust was...

Re: Tricks to remove cutout cover?

I don't see evidence of a spot weld. Any idea by looking at this? Would a squirt of PB Blaster help?

Tricks to remove cutout cover?

I tried the instructions in Jim Shild's Restorer's Model A Shop Manual, but holding the unit as he described, just bent the ears that attach to the generator. I removed the screws, filed as described...

Re: 1929 Hood Latches won't reach

..............................

The lacing I used is from Snyder's. In their catalog: COWL LACING For the 28-9's we offer 2 different cowl lacing kits. The original style uses a stainless wire to...

Re: uploading pics

I take photos with my Samsung Galaxy, send them to my desktop email, upload them to my pictures file and download them as jpg to this board. Never a problem.

Re: 1929 Hood Latches won't reach

There is no wire in the cowl lacing (reproduction version). The rear hood retainer is bolted solidly to the cowl and the hood is even or even slightly below the cowl at that point. Tomorrow I will...

Re: 1929 Hood Latches won't reach

I could add extra rubber or spacers to the latches, but I don't want to have to lift up the hood shelves to reach the nut holding the engine side bolt. The other two bolts go through the frame and...

Re: 1929 Hood Latches won't reach

Hood seems to line up with the cowl ok....maybe slightly lower, so I don't think the lacing is the problem. The latches did not reach properly before I replaced the lacing!

Now I have to run...

Re: 1929 Hood Latches won't reach

I can see that the hood lits a little high in relation to the line at the gas tank.
But the latches don't reach there or at the radiator. I raised the cowl about 1/4" to close the gap between it and...

1929 Hood Latches won't reach

Now that I have my hood looking a little better after putting shims under the cowl....my hood latches won't extend enough to grab the hood. They actually sort of hold the hood if I turn them around...
