I'm glad you got it sorted. Batteries are kind of a crap shoot anymore. Some don't last at all and then the next one will work flawlessly for 8 or 9 years...

On my ccpu it ended up being the ball on the pitman arm was worn nearly flat. It would drive fine and then if you hit a bump it would start shaking its head.

I agree- 97's and 94's are pretty easy to rebuid. The videos are pretty clear and helpful. He has a few little tricks from many years of mesding with them.

Yes you can rotate the shaft. It's pretty stiff but a 18" crescent worked fine.
