Seems to me that timing the engine with the spark lever down a few notches will REDUCE the amount of possible advance. What am I missing?

The tires are actual Universal brand from Coker, but there are probably other brands out of the same mold from the same factory.

Steve asked when the change over occurred. That reference does not answer his question. The service bulletin referenced was released May of 1929 but only spells out which oil baffle and bolt to use...

I've done plenty of hot rods with Grundy. I currently own 2 insured with them. An MGB with a 3.5 Rover aluminum V8 and Camaro T5, and a 914 Porsche with a small block Chevy. I do have to keep them...
