Re: How Fast Will It Go?

Brent, I think Henry may have been stretching truth in advertising a bit, but as I remember they did run a Model A from I think it was LA to Phoenix and averaged 60 MPH. As an ex motorcycle road...

Re: How Fast Will It Go?

I would think that if valve float didn't limit the RPM before 3000 the next thing to go would be the crank. I'm not worried about the babbitt. But there is a lot of weight reversing direction twice...

Thanks for the explanation Brent. So you are saying that with a well balanced engine that 3000 RPM is no problem.

Someone explain if these engines were so well balanced leaving the factory why do we now add large counter weights to smooth out vibrations.

Re: How Fast Will It Go?

I don't believe the stock A crank was dynamically balanced. With a 3.78 rear and 21 inch tires 70 MPH is turning at 3100 RPM. That's a lot for a stock A engine.

Re: How Fast Will It Go?

The question should be what RPM will the babbitt withstand. I would say not over 2000 RPM for any sustained driving. I never cruse over 1750 but then I have a Mitchell OD.
