Re: Switching Engine, Reusing Flywheel

Good, less work but the flywheel still weighs a ton. Might have them plane it and the pressure plate because it looks almost like the pressure plate got burned on half of it. When I put it back on in...

Re: Switching Engine, Reusing Flywheel

So I pulled the flywheel off (left the housing on, which is a nice ribbed one) and discovered a few interesting things. First off, wverything internal is painted with some green paint, probably...

Re: Cleaning a block

I would pressure wash it with some degreaser. I ised Stanley Degreaser on a block recently to clean the oil and gunk off of it and it revealed a layer of paint that was in decent shape. Cleaning the...

Re: Switching Engine, Reusing Flywheel

I am replacing the engine with another, but I will be sure to properly install the gaskets and not use cork.

I was just in the bell housing and trans for a clutch disk replacement and repaint....

Re: How do you install Bendix

The original style bendix requires no installation tool; the modern bendix does. I have heard reviews that the modern ones like to stick. I don't know how much of a problem this is but I think barely...

Re: Spark Control rod lubrication

I would just replace the plate at this point as Gary said.

Re: Spark Control rod lubrication

This a frequent problem with upper plates. The rivet that holds the point stud on and the one that holds the control ball on are the two that are frequently loose. I have tried using a punch to...

Switching Engine, Reusing Flywheel

So I pulled my old engine out to replace it with a newly rebuilt one. I don't have another flywheel around so I plan on using the old one along with the old pressure plate. My question is, has my...

Re: Radiator hose diameters

The black with red stripes were used on most cars while the completely red ones were rare on original ones. You would think that the red ones would be more expensive? Maybe it is the fact that the...

Re: So when would my car actually have been made?

If you go through the trouble of trying to see the frame number, it might be worn away by now, covered with too much paint, or not even there to begin with as not every frame had a number.

Re: Grounding Problems Cause By Frame Painting?

It is probablya combination of heavy paint products and worn/poor reproduction parts.

Re: Babbitt Work needed in IL. Anyone!?!

Just my opinion: the industry is shifting away from babbit for several reasons: one, modern cars have inserts; two, inserts don't require as much special knowledge and equipment as babbit. But with...

Re: Babbitt Work needed in IL. Anyone!?!

AER does not do babbit, only inserts. Not a lot of people do it anymore.

Re: Which SCAT crank?

AER in Skokie claims that the rope seals that they install on their engines after their work cause little to no oil leaks. Can't vouch for it.

Re: Original Sparton Horn data tag...

I am in the process of restoring a 55 Chevy and the place I sent the generator and starter to in Texas stamped new tags exactly like the originals. For those cars they sell new tags without the date...

Re: Odd Water Pump?

I wonder if they move more coolant as the impeller is larger and has four blades versus the stock three.

Odd Water Pump?

Got this in a lot of parts recently. The housing is normal but the shaft and impeller are quite different. The impeller is a completely different design with 4 blades and under it is a spring....

Re: Motor Paint color ?

The nuts were cadmium or zinc I think, but not painted.

I mix my own engine paint to get a almost exact match out of the color book.

Re: Cracked Head

I would be concerned about a block crack but you won't really know until the head comes off. It depends how the crack was caused, if water froze inside or not.

Re: Rumble Seat - HELP

They probably had the right size and rubber that was softer. Wish they made it right today.
