Re: aviation gas

A friend who is an airplane mechanic said that if you evaporate a gallon of it in a stainless steel bowl, there is a very faint white residue if anything left over. His side passion is vintage...

I hope you figure out how to get the trunk open, but I'm sitting here dying to see some pics of this low mile Zephyr

Re: wiring needed for a quick start 51 Flat in a 39 pickup

Some old style solenoids have a crank over button on the bottom. It will be a spring loaded rounded button. Just press it upward.

Re: ‘46 pickup speedometer—notes & question

Like I said, I could be wrong. Somebody here will know. Perhaps the 60 mph speedo was because you have the 'big truck' 4 speed trans. As far as the bouncing needle, I'm watching your thread for info!

Re: Wood For My 1934 Ford Project

From a guy in South Mt Vernon Wa, I heard his business was for sale. The guy was telling me I should buy his business with the patterns and tooling etc since I live on Orcas Island, the next ferry...

Re: ‘46 pickup speedometer—notes & question

You must have a 'tonner' pickup with a 60 mph speedometer and the quadrants showing when to shift. Or... your speedometer came from a bigger truck if yours is a half ton. Or... I could be wrong. I...

Re: First 100 Miles!!! Or a touch more. My '39 Pickup

Please excuse my ignorance on the subject, but what is that steel tube about 2" diameter with the elbow, a hot air heater off the exhaust manifold? I thought that went out with the model A.....I love...

Re: First 100 Miles!!! Or a touch more. My '39 Pickup

And like so many others I love that pickup of yours. My thoughts about judging at car shows is, oh well, to each his own. Any old vehicle is more fun than a nissan leaf. I'm driving the heck outa...

Re: 1934 Ford auction results

Maybe you and I should team up on the import/export of diesel landcruisers this way and early 30s fords that way......Oh, never mind I have my hands full with all these fords and like so many here I...

Re: 1934 Ford auction results

It's the old 30 year rule. Today's old car buyer does not look to relive driving around with his grandpa in a '34 ford. It was an early bronco, and today sells for twice what the '34 gets. I saw in...

It's an 8ba and has hardened seats on all valves.

Re: Valve seats. How to remove?

What am I missing here? Doesn't heating a ring shaped object make it bigger around, not smaller? I'd like to change out an exhaust valve seat in an 8ba block. The seat in question has a bunch of...

Re: Wildfire evacuation

The thick smoke haze and the trouble I have breathing has actually got me almost depressed. This morning sitting on the couch silent (rare) my wife asked if I'm ok. I was after we went to the local...

Re: Richard Merlini, in Bolder, CO - good seller!

So the world is still turning the way it was when I was young and a man's word can still be the truth. It is how it should be and I will sleep well tonight. Fordbarn rocks.

Re: NGK Plugs

As for me it was the crappy plug wires. I learned a lesson about path of least resistance, and now I want the best HT side I can conjure up. Best plugs, best gap etc,.

Re: Low comp on one. Yl

Not sure if it's possible, but I think my hair got whiter just following along with your ordeal. I feel your pain and your joy, and I'll say you did a great job figuring it all out.

Re: NGK Plugs

OK, I am always questioning. So for my stock, but 12v 221 I want to set my plug gaps to .035? Hoping to pick them up on Saturday if the smoke clears up enough to find the Napa store.

Re: 42-47 pickup bed

'38-'52 one tons had an 8' bed. Must be an inch or so longer, but a 96" sheet of plywood just allows the tailgate to shut. Starting in '53 with the advent of the F350, the bed was 9' (108"). I think...

Re: NGK Plugs

Thanks guys! I am learning the value of a well tuned ignition system from the slot in the end of the cam to the tip of the spark plugs.
