Re: A Condenser on a B distributor

I find the best reasons being in care of a Model A is to FIDGET with it and the rationale to buy MORE TOOLS. :p:p

Re: Mystery missfire .

Is #4 oil fowling? Could be BO oil control ring in #4. Compression test will not show bad oil rings.Try a hotter plug in #4.

Also check distributor body for 'carbon tracking' around #4 pin, inside...

Re: Radial sway

Don't get the shackle nuts so tight that it binds on the spring and hanger. I usually tighten mine snug and then back them off a little. You may have been OK.

Good find on the backing plate.

Re: Radial sway

John, easy check for the shackles. Put a wrench on the shackle nut and turn. If the nut turns with the cotter pin still in, you got issues.

Re: Radial sway

I had a lot of sway in my Town Sedan, even after installing a Panhard Bar on the rear. I thought it was because of the weight and shape of the car.

But while installing a Mitchell O/D I found a...

Re: 6v Alternator

Best I have found is to not worry about it. I just drive slowly up the street and by the time evrything is starting to warm up it is showing a charge.

I now have a PowerGen and it does not have...

Re: Adjustable Tappets

You need a helper because?

As long as you are modifying wrenches, I bent up a "special wrench" so I can see the lifters while I turn the engine over. It helps when timing your engine also. 1⅜"...

Re: headlights stopped working

I would start by checking the headlight switch located at the end of the steering column. It tends to get filled with 600w oil from the steering box leaking. Very poor design, IMO.

Re: Tie Rod & Drag Link Cups: Steel v. Teflon v. Bronze

MAC's has all three, take your pick. I have had Teflon in my Town Sedan for ~6 years now, no problems. I have never tried the bronze impregnated Teflon one. I think I would try them next time...

Re: Electrical motor to produce vacuum...is there such thing?

Your vacuum port in the manifold should work OK for the wipers but is probably not the best place for your vacuum advance. Most vacuum advance use "ported vacuum" (vacuum tap above the throttle...

Re: Front Fenders Hit the Shocks?

That is the mount for a steering damper. It was on the car when I bought it several years ago. I took it off when I installed a new front spring. I could not feel any difference.

Re: Front Fenders Hit the Shocks?

Here is a picture of my RF shock. As you can see there is not any interference with the fender. This is a Stipe shock.

Re: Running engine with no dip stick?

I have found the the repros (from Vintique of course) are a little small in diameter and fit a bit loose. On those I spread the legs a little so it holds tight and put a small 'o' ring on it.
