Re: OK! Oldtimers, Gimme your best answer, Stuck Engine

Oil should flow due to summer. (It was not 40 degrees out)
How many total miles since rebuild? Most...

Re: Synchromesh or Overdrive

What is a high speed rear end? Can you drive 60 continuously?

I have the Borg Warner OD and use it on the freeway, but rarely on surface streets. It makes 60mph feel like 45 as far as engine...

Re: How 550x19 radials look on a 29 Town Sedan

Not a radial, but Lester makes a 525/550 -19 with 3-7/8 WW.

So, 1/2 inch wider with a modern tread pattern. Should be more stable at speed, but harder to turn slow.

Anyone with experience with...

Re: Whitewalls

Fitting the cost of things into ones budget is always critical. Not sure the BW vs WW price comparison is accurate. Yes, you can get a Lucas BW for 99, but the do not make a WW.

Firestone,...

Re: Cracked Block Options

Like others, the JB weld will work, but first drain, drill ends, remove paint/ Drexel tool grind area, degrease with alcohol or brake cleaner. I patched holes in ‘58 Harley heads and it stayed good...

Re: Rear end Lub Question

According to some articles, 140wt is the same thickness as 600w. Modern standard, NAPA and others have it.

85-140 works, but double clutching takes a fraction longer for gears to match speed to...

I got my 10A power supply from eBay, $30. Case is isolated so no issues mounting it. Separate-/+ in and out.

Re: head lights??

Great to know. I was thinking the halogens would be a nice upgrade when the time comes.

I typically run with lights on, but got an alternator when the generator had issues. The regulator makes...

Re: Confirmed, VIN problem that has always bothered me. What would you do?

Wonderful CA DMV can be a pain. I have gone through the VIN / registration grinder 3 times. 2 old motorcycles and the A. Both bikes required DMV referral to CHP inspection, the A was DMV only,...

Re: Model A Times Article About Not Using Diesel Oil

The EPA issue with non-gasoline engine oil is the non-low friction additives. Motorcyclist have had these issues for years. Friction reducing additives are good for high gas mileage, but not so...

Re: Zenith LEAKS after rebuild

How is the float valve landing on the float? If rough, the needle could be getting caught and kept from moving.

New float valve? Check for stuff, grit or metal bits from matching it valve. Newer...

Re: 6 Volt alternator conundrum

Thank you! This information confirmed what I thought about my alternator.

After noticing some odd light flicker, I decided to check things. Battery is charged and holds a load well.

Re: Windshield Visibility: Vacuum vs. Electric Wiper Motor (Late 1930 CCPU)

I removed the wipers...it doesn’t rain in SoCal. There is a song about it.

One time I get caught out, the rainX did its job.

Did not think about legal requirement. I need to check, if a wiper...

Re: When were the first 1930 cars produced?

Just to be sure, your chassis number matches the engine number which indicates 29. So, not a replacement engine.

My 30 was registered as 31, original sold year. Pervious owner tried and gave up. ...
