I am running a test cap on my flathead that didn't have contenuty to any of the pins. The stror line is don't worry about it the spark will easily jump the gap......

Just a side note -- I have spent way to much time recently dealing with the distributor on my car but at the end of the day the design of this distributor is pretty incredible.

Make sure you are getting a spark from the wire to the plug with it installed. Also with the plug installed measure the resistance from the plug to the block should be 0 ohms. Just on a wild...
