Re: Vulcan 1 cylinder head

Combustion chamber looks like a repo Winfield I have. Hard to tell the CR without ccing the chamber but it looks bigger than the 7-1 Winfield. Just a WA guess, somewhere around 6-1. Don't really...

Re: high conpression head ??

I run a vintage Weiand head, 6.8 CR. On an engine dyno best HP at the flywheel was at 22 advance. The total advance for the A distributor is 40. Run the spark lever at about half way down on your...

Re: 97 vs 94

Holley made an equivelent to the Stromberg 81. It is the Holley 92, with the small venturis and was the replacement for the S 81 on the Ford v8 60 engine. Very nice touring carb and good on multi...

Re: What can be gained by a 6.0 head?

I have a 6.0 head and a B cam. The power increase is noticeable and handy to have for going up hills and a more accelleration which is good at stops. I do not believe the head without the cam would...

Re: Adapter Kit.. ‘39 trans to A/B engine.

I think most parts are interchangable 32-39. I have a mix and match with a 37 case, 38 gear set, 39 synchro. I have the 39 gearset which came in the 37 case when I bought it but I liked the 38 ratios...

Re: Leaf spring confusion

You can do a fair job of lubricating the springs by jacking up the car by the frame rails until the wheels are off the ground. I squirt in some graphite that is used to lubricate key locks. You know,...

Re: How old are my tires?

The US started date codes in 1971. The codes changed over time but it can be found by Google. I bought a 29 RPU with cracks in the tire sidewalls even though the tread was good. Figured time for a...

Re: Model B gearbox for a Model A?

The V8 installation with Clings adapter is quick and easy, no different than swapping an A trans in and out.

Re: Valve Spring Compressor

Ruth--AS I recall the double lock lifter are 7/16 but not so sure I would buy before a measurement. The thin wrenches are found by luck. They are cheaply made and only turn up occasionally. Easiest...

Re: Valve Spring Compressor

Concur the OHV type works well on the modern valves and springs. Shop around. You should be able to get on cheaper than shown in the post.

Re: Model A engine oil filler tube

I drilled and tapped a 1/2 inch, 90* brass fitting in the upper rear of the valve cover. Helps relieve pressure and maybe adds a little air circulation. No splash over from the valve chamber at all....

Re: Piston Question

You have to give the pistons to the machinist and have him bore to fit, to do it right. Since you need new pistons anyway, I would forget the .080 bore that may or may not be right, get .100 over and...

Re: timing

I have the same issue on my pickup. A Snyder 6-1 head and B cam. Have timed it so 20* is max advance. Obviously retarded on start, but no problem. Easy start, and heats up faster in cold weather. I...

Re: Does the cowl need to be grounded?

A simple grounding strap from the battery to the sheet metal body helps the lights grounds. Run the battery primary ground to a bolt on the transmission. Helps with the starter. The cowl/dash is...

Re: WD40 as hand cleaner

Best and cheapest hand cleaner is plain oil. Rub it on and it lifts dirt, grease, etc. I now fill it in a empty used hand cleaner squeeze bottle. Follow up with soap and water.

Re: Reflecting cylinder walls

Nothing wrong with the cylinder walls. They wear in and are shiney. Do not know what you mean by 25% loss of cylinder pressure, what is the actual reading? But, if you want to replace the rings while...

Agree with G Baese. I paid $80 after my first oil change. There were also used on 300 ci straight six. Might try a wrecking yard.

Re: Valve clearance

.025 is an awful lot of expansion for a stainless steel valve. If that T follower was riding on the heel of the cam there was no clearance. Would be curious what lash was set on those T valves.

Re: need help totally confused clutch finger adj

Not correct.
The location of the clutch throwout bearing is dependent on the clutch pedal pinion adjustment. You might be able to make the fingers all even, and it would provide some minimal...
