steering bracket fuel leak

Any one repair a leak at the steering bracket to fuel tank. It just seeps alittle, the old rivets must have lost their grip. might try a little weld or putty. Its a 29, not show quality, just a driver. Any suggestions before i hack at it.

I have heard people braze the area and then repaint. Just my 2 cents.

I just spent the last two days researching this. Reading alot of old post from other Fordbarners you have a few options. You can pull the tank and resolder the leak which is what was done when new or you can try a few of the sealers. Some of which are Seal-all, Permatex gas tank repair, Marine Tex or JB Water Weld.

If I may advise, after you make the necessary repair, install a steering column support bracket such as the late 31s use. This bracket will remove the stress that develops on the old style welded bracket, and transfer that stress to the dash rail support.
