EAB heads

I picked up a pair of EAB heads. I don't think they match numbers-wise but I don't know if that matters. One of the heads has deeper dishes than the other. They have both been surfaced, one has been sitting longer than the other due to the surface rust. The painted head is the deeper dish one. Will I have problems with these? Thanks.

Looks like one has been molested. Two different compression ratios.

Re: EAB heads

Looks like the first one has been surfaced a few times. Caution, check piston/valve clearances. Second one looks to have had the domes recut. They both could be made usable, but not together as is.

Re: EAB heads

I'll have to look into buying a pair of these or measure the depth of the uncut head and compare it. I figured these wouldn't work but thought I'd ask anyway. I am almost debating taking my EAC heads I have for sale and surfacing those down to EAB specs and using them. I'm not sure if it is that easy.

If they get cut down to where the back of the water outlet is, then they have been cut a lot. Maybe too far.

Here are a couple shots of a N.O.S. EAB head fpr comparison.

Looks like the Pink head was cut to run a Ford piston on a Merc crank., Sure increase CR with out reducing flow.

Whenever I see posts like this it reminds me of Walt DuPont's story about his long-ago stock car bud that heated his heads in a coal fire, drug them out then melted two lengths of brazing rod into the combustion chamber pockets for higher compression. I figure if you could drill small diameter holes at critical angles and locations for anchor points in the iron to hold a big slab of brass, this could actually work. Higher CR on the cheap. Sounds like a good enterprise if someone would be up for it. I know I'm going to try it with a set of low compression 99T heads. Not soon, but I'll report how it works out.

Is this a practical and useful modification for the street?

Re: EAB heads

Absolutely not. It could be done but there are easier and cjeaper ways to raise compression.

I have an older friend who did the same thing, again for stock car racing. So I would assume, it wasn't an uncommon trick.
