Trinkets.... 1 Attachment(s)
I picked these up to use them as a key chain. What sort of Ford trinkets do you have?

Re: Trinkets.... Those are tool chits. An employee leaves one at the tool room in exchange for a borrowed tool. His badge number on the chit ensures return at the end of the day. Those chits you have are pretty fancy! I've never seen such fancy dancy ones! :)

I liked them because they are from the Rouge plant. I am sure there are thousands of them out there. Like I said, I like little trinkets like these, not expensive, but part of the history. |

We met a nice fellow from around the Dearborn area at Hershey one year and he had quite a selection of dishware as well as silverware from the Rouge plant dining halls as well as the tool tags with the Ford logo so we gathered up a few pieces which I treasure along with other simple collectibles.

Re: Trinkets.... I found these in my Dad's treasure chest when I was a kid.

I have a collection of "Rouge" tool chits, the workers who were authorized to use tools from the tool crib were issued 5 "chits" that were numberd with the same number as their Ford Rouge Badge. They were also known as "tool checks", to check out tools.
Some of the "Henry Ford Trade School" students had them also, the "Trade School" was on the Rouge Factory grounds near the "Motor Plant" building. The students spent two weeks at the Rouge plant and the the next two weeks at their Private Trade School loacation off Michigan Blvd. between Greenfiled and Southfield Roads. In this case "F" preceding the number indicated Administration, Traffic,Etc. and later Engine Assembly. The last graduating class was in 1952. (Photo attachment of 5 "chits".) Re: Trinkets.... I have a Blue silk Ribbon (faded to purple now) what says,
"Winner _____ National Sales Contest JUNE-JULY 1935 Attached to the ribbon is a round medalion that is stamped Ford V8 San Diego 1935 on the front and on the reverse it says Ford 1935 in the center and has a border with slanted lines going around the entire edge. Across the top there is a place for winner's name to be inserted in a slot. The place for the winners name is approx 1 1/4 inches by 3/8". The ribbon itself is about 1 1/2" long. A nice little award. I will try and get a photo of it and post it later on. |

Re: Trinkets.... So what was the "River Rouge" I was told that is what the R. Rouge was. Supposedly one of mine is tool and die. Anyway to tell when they were issued? Be kinda neat if you had one from the same period as your car?

From the information I have they started in 1932 they were still using them in 1954. They switched to a plastic photo ID sometime later. I don't have the exact date. Let me know the letter proceding the number on your badge I can at least tell you what part of the Rouge plant it was issued to. They used most of the letters from A to Z. A- was Motor Assembly. 1932 and later Rouge badges. B -was Motor Crankshaft. " C- was Maintenance. " Model A badges were different. "River Rouge" was where the Rouge plant was located next to the Rouge River, The tankers and ore carriers came in on the Rouge River to the palnt and unloaded. Ford Motor Co. owned their own fleet. Here's a watch fob or keychain tag that is just right for the keys to my 1950 F1. I think the plant was (is?) in Buffalo, NY.

N-Is Stock, Blacksmiths. W-Is Crankshaft, Dies, Jigs. This is correct from 1932 to the 1960's The letters ment something else in the Model A days I was told. Hope this helps, Mark |

Re: Trinkets.... Mark I worked at the ford rouge office bldg. in the early 60 's. Spent time at Dearborn engine as well as tool and die plant. Where did you work at the time ?
