gen not in line with crank pulley??

Re: generator not lineing up Any chance you have a timing cover from a 1933-34? They move the generator back to allow for the slope of the radiator in the later vehicles. You can see a picture of one in my old ad: https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showth...ens#post475242
How is the alignment at the water pump and is it a model A pump? If you have the correct 4 bolt Model A water pump and it lines up with the generator then the problem is with the front pulley. Any chance something is keeping the pulley from going all of the way in? Charlie Stephens |

Re: generator not lineing up I just used a dividers to measure the center of the V on my crank pulley to the front timing cover lip for the front motor mount and I get 1 3/32". All 3 of my pulleys line up nicely.

Re: generator not lineing up What did you do to get in this predicament? In otherwords-just putting back together, replaced generator or ???????
|
Re: generator not lineing up I just reinstalled one the other day that had spacers on both side of the engine flange where the generator slipped on. Did yours by any chance have these?
|
Re: generator not lineing up What was the last thing you did before the problem appeared? My guess would be that there is something keeping the front pulley from going all the way in. Do you have a two piece pulley?

Re: generator not lineing up gary...doing ok at this end buddy....love ur trucks.....how long have you been driving this with it misaligned? It has to be eather the front cover or the mounting brackets on the generator. If soneone has rebuilt the generator it is easy to get the bracket on the wrong way.....let us know what you find out...the best to ya bud..

Re: generator not lineing up Back to the picture in #1, is the pulley not lined up, or is the steel yardstick running crooked due to a crank pulley wobble? Turn the crank 180* and see if the yardstick still shows the same gap to the generator. Also measure as I did in #4 if the pulley doesn't show wobble. If the pulley shows wobble then that needs to be corrected first.
BTW, my temporary engine also has a two piece pulley, and that's why I gave a measurement from the center of the V rather than the easier to measure rear edge of the crank pulley. |

Gary Since you have two other A's have you tried swapping generators with one of them? That would tell you if it's the generator or not. |

Re: generator not lineing up Hi Gary Could it be some of the part's got switch as shown in the April 30 service bulletin's...different pulley with the different armature shalf's ??? Greg out West |
Re: generator not lineing up If you stand right in line with the V belt, how does it look?
I'm still wondering if the crank pulley has a bend or something keeping it from seating fully? |
