42-48 reference books

if you were to recommend reference material for the building of a 42-48 ford what would you recommend. Any help would be appreciated. I know most parts are interchangeable, but I would like to be able to recognize each year..... Thanks

Re: 42-48 reference books

I would suggest the the Early V-8 Ford Club of America at www.earlyfordv8.org. Or the large Early Ford V-8 parts vendors have a lot of books avialable.

The V-8 Club started in 1963 I am a 46 year member. Mark Slight

Hi ibslamed, To add to what others are contributing. VanPelt Sales maintains a fabulous reference drawing library online. http://www.vanpeltsales.com/ You might need them later.

Another great on-line resource is the Flathead Ford Techno Site. I don't have the url handy to post but you could probably find it at flatheadsrus.com or maybe do a Google search to find it.

I will add one to this, the Canadian "1939-48 Ford and Mercury Shop Manual" it was put out in repop by crank'en hope publications 412 459 8853. An excellent mechanical service book with lots of good drawings and charts. There are two versions of this, one is only Ford and the other includes Merc, get the combination one, it is excellent.
