Master cylinder ???

Is a 1" bore dual master cylinder big enough for 39-48 brakes, or should I go to 1 1/8"?

Bit of a funny one, this. Ideally a 1-1/16" diameter cylinder would be ideal, all other things being equal. I looked for a long time and came to the conclusion there are no drum/drum dual cylinders in the 1-1/16" size. I bought a cylinder for a 77 E150 van - 1-1/16" diameter, disc/drum. Only thing is, it has no residual valves.

Personally I'd go for 1-1/16", 1-1/8", 1", in that order of preference, but compensate with pedal ratio if possible.

Old rusty has a 1" cylinder and it feels like a little too much travel unless brakes are adjusted very often.

Other peoples opinions may vary.

Double check the model I quoted, you can get the sizes off the Rockauto.com website.

Mart.

A 1" will give you more braking power than a 1 1/16". A 1 1/-16" will move more fluid if that is your question. The difference may be negligible.
