I bought this original Dec 35 Australian advert for a 35 phaeton about 3-4 years ago. Only about 400 were sold here. It only just occurred to me that the artist made a mistake. Can anybody else pick it (and I don't mean that the steering is on the right hand side of the car !!!;))

Hi Dan, Very neat Advertisement. Regarding your Query, the Artist has illustrated the Rear Doors as Front Opening, (Suicide) the same as on Fordor Sedans, when in actual fact, they are Rear Opening on Phaetons & Convertible Sedans.

You got it Mercman. I was thinking that they may have started with material for a 35 convertible sedan and changed the windshield and door lines but forgot to change the position of the handles.

The other error appears to be the top of the windshield frame which appears to be straight in the advertisement. At least on the North American versions, the '35-'36 windshield frame top has a slight curvature to it.

It would also be a neat trick if the top could actually fold into the tiny space allotted to it by the artist.

Annnnd...Wouldn't a Phaeton have two windshield wipers?

Where's Wally when you need him?

Re: neat aussie 35 phaeton advert

Most of the era adverts were artist drawn but would have been loosely based on a photo. Drawings allowed the car to be rendered more low & rakish than the actual real car. The Aussie '34 coupe was drawn with a low 'top chop' roof which it never had.
Doubt the drawing was based on a convert. sedan [as suggested by Dan] as that was a model never built or imported into Australia. It also did not have forward opening rear doors. The artist was maybe going from a photo of the 1932 Phaeton, or just using his artistic license.

There was a 1935 Australian phaeton here in this area a few years ago and it was sold to someone in the East coast N.I, it could be Napier as it has been in the Art Deco event there. Someone from there might chime in about it.

Saw it parked up at the beach the other day. Unfortunately I didn't have time to look over it.

This could be the car you guys are talking about. I saw it at the Model A Nats in Hastings NZ a few years ago
