40 Horn

I have been told there is a difference between a 40 pickup horn and that of a car. I believe both are the single horn format not the double (high, low) type. However, the green bible has the 40 horn classified as a 39-47 91a-13807 passenger except special 8cyl. Can anyone enlighten me? thanks

Re: 40 Horn

My service manual lists the 40-41 passenger cars as having 2 air electric horns and the trucks and commercial cars as having 1 vibrator type horn.

I don't know about service manuals or parts manuals written years after the cars were made. These manuals will show you a part that will work, which may not be what the car or truck came out with. I have a low mileage '40 truck with the original single horn, and several low mileage '40 cars with the dual electric horns. You can take that to the bank as being original for 1940 production.

Re: 40 Horn

I believe '38 - '41 1/2 ton pickups had a single horn similar to the "37 and '38 std cars, while the '39 and '40 pass cars had twin slim body trumpets.

Did someone say 1940-47 Ford pickup horns? You wanna see pickup horns, I'll show you pickup horns. How many pickup horns you wanna see? I got more. The bracket with the 3 bolts is 1938 Standard, same horn, unique bracket to 1938 Standard. The bracket with two bolt holes is the correct horn mounting bracket for 1940 thru 1947 Ford Pickup and truck. You wanna see 40 car horns?

L78, do you have a pic of the horns? Do they look like that of nospartsman?

Yes, I'm eager to know too. I may have to make refunds after selling this horn as 1940-47 Pickup for the previous 37 years.

Here is a photo of my horn, also I looked at some of the photos form the ford archives and it appears as if the single horn was used on the trucks only. Hope this helps.

I understand Mr. D. Thomas. It's something like this: OK so you've got a spear wound in your side, nail holes in your hands and feet, thorn wounds and a broken leg, anybody could have those, I'm going to need a little more conformation. If you could just walk on water, I'll believe you, let's go to the beach.
Ok, so you can walk on water, all that means is you're a Deity, are you the right Deity. I'm going to need just a little bit more confirmation. If you could just raise a few dead, make some blind see, lame walk, and how many people can you feed with 40 loaves and fishes. Also, do you know a girl with the initials MM, and what is her name?
Maybe, just maybe, someone with 17 horns shown, might, just might know what a correct 1940 truck horn is, without need for additional confirmation. Usually when people assume I don't know what I'm doing, it's based on my appearance. I thought the photos of the parts would speak for themselves. Plus in another post you were shown 18 1940 Ford perch bolts, 15 of which were NOS, does the average knuckle head have quantities of NOS parts? Or is there a outside chance that there is a familiarity with the subject matter.

This is every reason why I cringe every time I sell a part on eBay!!! Hey nospartsman...I need one of those horns and I trust you know what you are talking about but I'd be more convinced if you had placed at least 20 horns on your table.

Regarding the single horn, what is the length? I have heard 6" to 10"?

I have some pictures of a horn I took off a '40 truck I parted out back in the late '60s. I will post them for you for what it is worth. I think the NOSparts guy is in Kentucky near me. I have been to his place and purchased parts from him over many years. He knows what he is doing and makes a living at what he knows and loves. What ever he tells me I believe if that will help you.
