181037472799 ebay. I know this car ..seen it at a locale show here in N.Y. about 5 years ago. SOLID original car that was bought in 1967 and then restored in late 80's. It was put away till about 5 years ago and has less then 200 miles. Son sold the car because he's into dirt motorcycles. father left it to him , so now the son sold it...after his father death.:eek:

You're right 'Roadster62', the top appears to have been installed improperly. The main rear bow is tipped too far forward. Notice the body sheet metal pushing against top material at rear. Also the bottom of main bow top iron (chrome part) should be parallel with body molding not pointing down. If it was corrected, side curtains wouldn't fit. Otherwise a very nice car.

Question about the steering brace, is that an added spacer for this model?

The Deluxe Phaeton does use an added drop down spacer between the steering column and fuel tank. In the Deluxe Phaeton, the driver sits on a lower than normal jump seat height and the steering column spacer brings the steering wheel down to a more usable height.

very nice car but "show quality" is a relative term for certain.

based on what I can see in photos, this car will do well in AACA judging and probably get some trophies at local-yokel car shows.

if some poor schlub buys it at top dollar to do MARC/MAFCA fine point they will be in for an awakening.

I strongly agree that this car, with a ½ day of minor detailing, could easily get its Senior award, ...and very likely be a fun car to tour with also. I tend to think in the right environment, mid to high $30's is about 'par' even with the top as-is. Fix the top and install correct fabric and it will likely get its Senior Grande National award and might even hit low $40s.

#1. The steering column spacer is backwards. #2 the top does need to be redone correctly for that better look .#3 With some detailing [hoses , clamps, oil cap, new head gasket , some cad. plating , and you will have a Senior A.A.C.A. Winner... It will not take much. Other then that a solid car to work with that is mostly all there. Give or take it should sell about $35,000.00 to $40,000.00 ...Bet ya it goes OVERSEAS.... and that will be a shame. bad timing on my part[well ,,,daughters wedding 2 months ago] and now i'll be a Grandfather in June.... or this car would be mine.l.o.l.

The dropped steering column spacer installed backward is an amusing "professional" touch. Besides that, there are too many reproduction parts on this car to count...I gave up at the door handles...and wonder what happened to the original. The driver's side door looks like it is having problems fitting (that would require some serious intervention) and though I have seen the reproduction top irons look as obtuse as this does...is it possible that the "professional restorer" used a reproduction standard windshield/stanchion in this work? I’ve also heard it is not running as if that mattered. In the end, I agree with Marco...if one wants to make this a respectable, nice and proper car, he/she would need to start over.

We have four long days to go before we see who snags this treasure. I would not be surprised to see it hit up to $45K with some poor person sweating bullets to get it.

Don, speaking as a "professional restorer", while it might be easy for all of us to criticize the restorer for their actions on this car, one thing that we often face in this industry is it is generally the customer that dictates what is used. While I am definitey defending whomever performed this restoration, I often find myself using parts or painting vehicles in colors that I would not use if the choice were solely mine. Just offering a perspective from another side of the fence! :D

Point taken...and I intended no offense...a "professional" by definition is one who is paid, and at that point...conversation leads to "choices" either by the paid professional restorer and/or the owner. There are shops, like yours for instance, that will use OEM parts when available and feasible. Restoring a model A to an OEM status is challenging to the professional, and to the Owner, if they are not one in the same, a lot of money, and potentially, frustration. To some, like me, there is an intellectual challenge which lies there and burns, is unexplainable and often intangible. I have been restoring things; cars, building, stuff...all my life because I believe the older things were designed and constructed with a frame of mine toward maintenance and continuance. I also have a deep aversion to "change for the sake of change" which is an embedded stigma in today's culture. The good things I see are that, as you say, the car is not "pimped" out with white sidewalls, and that it will hopefully make it into the body of the Believers; someone who will hopefully continue to keep it running and in the slightly growing body of cars what will be continued in use and interpretation.

First , [swo4rd] It is AMAZING that you can tell by these pictures that the inside door handles are Repo??? I have original ones in my car and repo's. for backup. If you know anything about 180A's you will then know the last time one [right side] was for sale on ebay it sold for over $200.00 [Australia winning bidder] and i should know my last bid was $230.00...A+L makes the repo's. and they are a little heavy because the original ones break.[and there is one other way but not by these pictures] They are more correct for the 1932 cars and up [enough of a lesson] .And i don't know where you heard the car does not run???? 5 years ago i put a carb. on that car at the show because the father let the car sit to long. THE CAR RUNS SUPER as the seller stated. Enfield Auto restoration did the body and paint work and then some. Then it was finished in another shop. Seller has all the bills and the total work done on this car... As i said i know the car and i would of bought it in a heart beat ,,but timing was off. Yes it does have a repo. trunk rack[ try and find a good original one for sale].Then call me , i can always use a extra. And as Brent said, its up to the owner what HE WANTS and WANTS to spends NOT the shop even when they know its incorrect.Someone buying this car between $35,000.00 to $40,000.00 ????? don't know ,,but i am going by past sales and put $25,000 in to the car and i bet you have a Marc of EX. with no problem.The most cost being the top and upholstery[ Bill Sturm] if he still takes on jobs??? I would like to see your list of repo's items which could easily be replaced with no problems....

So i heard.. [Bill Sturms] .There is a guy name Dave in Ridgefield Conn. that does a nice job...but works with LB kits.
