Fender welt...is this correct?
 

I did some more dumpster diving,...is this correct original welting or some
repop stuff? It measures, about, .210" for the piping by 1.5" wide.

The welting in your picture looks very close to the welting I bought from Roy Nacewicz. He said the welting he sells is very close to what was originally used. I have a little left from installing it on the fender of my coupe. I could send you a piece of it if you want to compare what you have with what Roy sells. Let me know.

Below is what it says in his catalog:
FENDER WELTING-our own reproduction of original Ford Pyroxylin cloth covered, paper twine-filled fender welting. This is machine sewn, in house, utilizing original materials. The “Box grain” generated on the pyroxilyn cloth is unique to our product. All other welting on the market is produced from extruded vinyl and therefore the “box” pattern is not achievable. Our material is produced on one of the original tools used by one of Ford’s primary suppliers. Likewise, the twisted paper core is still produced for us by an original Ford supplier.

Was the original "sewn"? This is not. The "Box grain" I'm not familiar with,
this welting looks like it's Black Lacquered. I didn't look at the photos
after posting, the one that shows the outside looks crappy too me...may
need to post another. The roll of welting(about 30') has what's left of a
Ford tag(which means 0) and it quite brittle. The sewing part is interesting!
When you get some time post a photo, please. Thanks

I took a picture of the welting I bought from Roy N. a couple year ago. The bead is .210" wide (same as what you "found") and the width is 1.7" from the top of the bead to the bottom of the welting. The total width is not very I my opinion. Not sown might be a problem. I suppose you could glue the sides together to keep the bead from coming loose. It is sown with black thread. Below is a picture of one end.

I concur it appears like Roy's welting, which is about as close as you will find. He actually located the press that makes the grain. I did an article on him which will be in the next Model A Times.

Here's a larger photo, doesn't look the same and I guess the sewing needs too
be there! But it does look nice,...for a repop. Thanks Rusty and John.

Easily sewn at the upholstery shop, maybe 5 minutes work. My sewing machine has a couple different size piping attachments, but mines in storage at the present, hope to have a new shop in the spring, and can bring out some toys again.
