'Snow A' Pics / Wheel Color Question ??
 

First off check out this amazing looking and interesting A!!! Secondly, is that Tacoma Cream or more of a 'true yellow'???


I am thinking of doing the wheels on my A powder coated in this color. I have a GREAT powder coater.

WOW! That's a great picture of an interesting "snow cat" conversion. The wheels, whatever color they are, really compliment the colors of the car. It looks almost like a chicle/copra combination. The tracks duck down low enough to clear the doors of the car, while the rear "fender" keeps the snow from flying too far. IMHO, the lighter colored wheels look best with blackwall tires. Whitewalls dress a car up, but with lighter wheels, the contrast isn't as great and you lose some of the effectiveness. Enjoy YOUR Model "A" by having the wheels any color you want. :cool:

I think that color is straw, and yes it does go very well with chicle and drab on a Model A.

I agree on the wheel color.

Those colors are Bonnie Gray and Chelsea Blue?

I have seen a couple of '28-early '29 cars recently with MUCH lighter colors, claimed by the owners to be the "TRUE" Bonnie Gray and Chelsea Blue.

Do you consider the colors in your photos to be correct? (Within the limits of monitor reproduction, of course.)

Hi Joe,

Unfortunately I can't say. It's been about 6 years since I worked on it and Mike (the owner) sent me a few pics which I scanned. I won't trust my memory on the colors. BTW, Mike had the cleated tires reproduced so they are available for those few that actually need them.

Ok, now I feel I've hijacked this thread and I hate it when folks do that! Mike actually wanted to show this in 2004 but MAFCA at that time was too confused to deal with it.

My wife with her car in the front yard. Coker has reproduced the special cogged tire and I purchased a pair for future use. Still running originals on this car and have one NOS tire left.

OK, so the wheel color is definitely not Tacoma Cream? Was 'Straw' an oem color?? Honestly, oem is not that important to me.... I do want to match the color of the wheels in the first pic! my powder coater is the one who said it was Tacoma... just trying to figure out how I tell him exactly what color it is..

Bill, Straw was a pinstripe color but was never a Ford Model A factory wheel color. To my eye the wheels in your pic are not Tacoma Cream, but monitors are not always accurate. Tell your powder coater that the Tiger Drylac code for Tacoma Cream is RAL1001. If you want to compare, the code for Straw is RAL1002.
