Mitchell OD Question My 40 sits at a "rake" and gear oil from the rear end runs downhill from the rear center section into the torque tube. If I install a Mitchell overdrive will this still be a problem? Or will I have to install something in the Mitchell "torque tube" to prevent this from happening? Thanks.

Re: Mitchell OD Question There have been some threads a while ago about installing a seal or a baffle just ahead of the pinion for a forward sloping torque tube. Vern Tardel used to catalog something along those lines and Richard Lacy of Early V8 Garage might offer some insight. The Mitchell might offer its own sealing arrangement.

Re: Mitchell OD Question Tardel has a baffle that stops the oil from running down the torque tube.

Re: Mitchell OD Question After installing the Mitchell, the rearend becomes isolated.
I found it necessary to install a breather at 10 o'clock in the left axle bell, away from the ring gear, to relieve pressure. |
Re: Mitchell OD Question Call Sue Mitchell, she'll have the answer.
I have a Mitchell in my 41 pickup, have not had a prolem and my truck sits nose low. |
