Rumble Seat seal ?? Which one ? I have 3 A's with rumble seats and none of them have a seal. I understand that Henry never thought them ( seals ) to be necessary. Mac's have 4 seals available. To keep moisture out which one(s) do you recommend and does it go on the body or the lid or both ?

Re: Rumble Seat seal ?? Which one ? The way the trunk/rumble lid is designed for drainage nothing will change it. Water will not get into the seating area unless drains are plugged and even then it would take a considerable amount of water. If you were to put a weatherstrip in the trough the water would travel on top of that weatherstrip in the same manner as it would otherwise. A weatherstrip in the deck lid would reduce air flow but water never enters there.
Finally, if you have a '30-31 Coupe take a look at the upper corners of the deck trough. You will find a hole in the front of each corner. These are drains from the upper roof corners. If you block these drains and ever take in any water at the rear of the roof it will flow into the cabin instead of draining out as the original design provides. As with many "better ideas" this one can do more harm than good. |
Re: Rumble Seat seal ?? Which one ? Mac's larger half round, hollow weatherstrips, fitted flat down in the decklid gutter, looks good & kept the lid "quiet" on my '30 Coupe!
Their smaller half round, hollow weatherstrip, applied around door flanges is barely noticeable & keeps out a LOT of cold air. You'll have to use the larger strip across the bottom of the doors. They are peel off, self sticking, and they stick good. If you have to reposition them, they still stick good. Bill W. |
