Ames bodied model T I just bought a 1922 Model t. I think it has the Ames body. Higher and wider radiator shell, California type top, Completely different body, and all six removable side windowss. wider body, rear gas tank, fancy interior. Amost 100% complete and rust and dent free. Many of these around? It has been sitting in a barn for the last 40 years. Any one have pictures, Thanks, Bob

Re: Ames bodied model T Bob sent me pictures. Interesting, but I'm not sure what it is. It is and aftermarket body of unknown manufacture. I did forward pictures to Dan Treace who is good at finding these things,so we'll see.

Would agree that this T appears to be an Ames built body.
While Ames is mostly associated with speedsters, they did build other bodies for Ts. One clue is the dashboard, most higher end aftermarket builders, National, Dayton, etc had a finished firewall built in the body. The Ames were made to fit to the Ford chassis, so you see the existing Ford wood firewall, to which the Ames body is fastened. An that cowl vent door, somethings Ames did. Front mud guard, rounded body cowl, and use of std. Ford fenders, aprons and running boards. A body built to sit on the Ford chassis. The radiator shell is higher to use the Ford radiator, many other builders used special high radiators with their high straight line body styles. An used 'hidden hinges' in the body doors, that was high end practice. Note the Ames, being a lower-cost builder, used exposed hinges on the doors. The top on this Ames seems original, so this is perhaps the Tour-Sedan model. Never have seen one, you did see speedsters. That Tour-Sedan would be quite rare. |

Re: Ames bodied model T 7 Attachment(s)
here a current pictures of the AMES .
it needs to go to someone to preserve it instead of going into my barn to deteriorate until my estate sale. it will be very reasonably price. car is complete and good condition and should run easily. |
Re: Ames bodied model T I'm glad you posted those photos since it shows the window inserts and interior. That was quite a set up and it deserves to be known by model T folks even though it isn't all Ford.
