Victoria Header
 

I ran into an odd duck the other day. The original header that I have is narrower than the replacement offered. The additional thickness will not allow the header cover to seat back in it's original location. With that said, there must be a physical difference with the body construction or the header covers?
Steve at Classic Wood Mfg said he has run into a couple like this.

The header should be the same for both the Steel, Leatherback, and possibally the slant windshield sedan. I cannot find any information in the Victoria Association's archives to address the difference.

Can anyone shed any light on the differences.

I had this same experience with the new Classic Wood Mfg. wood header that I installed in my 30 leatherback victoria. After installing the wood header I used a belt sander and sanded the front of the new wood header until the metal header cover fit the windshield post as original. Sand a little and trial fit...sand some more and trial fit. It did finally work out to fit near perfect. Not sure why the difference but bottom line is you will have to fit the metal cover.

The difference was +/- 3/16. The machining was perfect on both sides, just to thick. I sent my original back to Steve at CWM with the copy and he will be able to make the correction. I wonder if the descrepency is akin to the Leatherbacks?

I enjoy the historical aspect of these also, consistantly inconsistent!

My original header just crumbled when I removed it so I did not worry about trying to measure the thickness difference with the new piece. I think that I sanded at least 3/16 inch (Tim's measurement) off the face to fit the metal cover.

What timing! My son is about to start the wood replacement in is Vicky, Good info.

If I may, are you guys using the original nut holder in the front of the header or just using "T" nuts. My son is missing one of the original holders so if your not going to use yours are you willing to part with one? Please send PM.

I had the same problem with my vicky,had to sand,sand and sand!!!!

While not conclusive, the 4 Victoria owners who have also had to sand the reproduction header were also Leatherback models. This makes more sence than an anomoly or mid year production change.

I sent my original header to Steve at Classic Wood Manufacturing to correct mine. He will be able to take measurements for future headers.

Found them!!! Hey Mike PM me your mailing address and I will send you the two from my Victoria. I went with the T-nuts that came with the new header on my car.

CLASSIC WOOD MANUFACTURING now has a pattern for the CORRECT Victoria Header if you have the narrower one. While not conclusive it may be that the leatherback or at least a few of them had the narrower header. No need to sand anymore!!!!

Remember it is a lot easyer to sand and fit your header then glueing some wood on it and than sanding to fit. I would rather have a header that is a little to big than to small,

Classic Wood Mfg is actually in Greensboro, North Carolina and not South Carolina.
