Timing using NU Rex
 

I installed the Nu Rex timing indicator. Full retard turned out to be 0 degrees. Full advance is 35 degrees. Half way is 20 degrees. What is the optimum setting for 45 to fifty mph. How much advance is too much? This is a new rebuild and I don't want to pound the babbit out of the bearings.

If its stock compression, Les Andrews states that each of the 11 notches on the advance lever is good for aprox. 5 mph. I use that as a scale. It works if they arent too worn off. If you have a high cpmpression head you'll have to get that from someone else. Just be sure to back off if or when you hear that ping of pre ignition, that's what kills the pistons!

I wouldn't go more than 26-27* BTDC at speed 45 mph. I use a rule of thumb of .0125 times the engine RPM in thousands. 2200 RPM is about 48 MPH for standard gear ratio and 19 in wheels. 2200 * .0125= 27.5 * Hi comp head maybe slightly less.
