Am I the only one that does this?

I just got a pretty substantial bonus at work that was completely unexpected, so its time to order some Model A parts! :D Hopefully this will go a long way toward getting my coupe going this summer so I'm excited! The problem I have is that it seems like every time I make an order theres alway that one little thing that was important to the job I was bent on completeing that I forget! Its either a little $0.50 part or one larger one that costs me extra dollars (and hassle) to ship a couple days after I made my first order. Lately I try to make a list and sit on it for a couple days and go over it a few times but it still doesn't seem foolproof. Oh and theres the waiting a few days part thats not alway easy either.;) I'm jelous of you guys that are within driving distance from one of the Model A suppliers. Then again its probably a good thing that I"m not!

I spend every penny of my bonuses on the A model!!! I also always forget those much needed parts to complete the project at hand too

Happens all the time to me, and I have to have it shipped to someone that is coming for a visit! Not easy getting parts to Mexico!

Yep! Thats me. They probably just glance at the name and think, oh this guy again - and don't even have to read line 2 and 3 for the address. They probably have it memorized by now. Then you have to answer to the significant other when she asks, "Why are we getting so many boxes at the door? How much are you spending?" :o

If you have the cash, "make hay while the sun's shining". If your house is like mine, the money will be gone next week.

Besides the wasted time the shipping is usually 3 or 4 times the cost of the part! But then again I have lots of the same parts that I've forgotten about and have
re-ordered the same thing. Big sale on Ebay when I finish my coupe. Sucks to get old. lol

Was just at Little Dearborn again today, seems like it is a few times a month.... need a LOT more bonus $'s to spend there! Do not need to pay shipping when you can pick it up in person.. so just buy more parts...

Same here. When I finally got to the point I was actually putting my car together, I found as many as three of some things.

I go through the catalog after I worked on the car, page by page and circle each item needed. Works for me.

Re: Am I the only one that does this?

When I have ordered several parts,I have tabbed the page with a colored tab and placed a colored marker dot next to the part. Later when I need to order parts I use a different color page tab and a different color marker dot so that I know when I've ordered something and when!! As I age the brain computer forgets ( more & More)!!

No you are not the only person that forgets to order that one important part (more like "Who is the person that never forgets?")

Re: Am I the only one that does this?

Most "extra" parts will be needed sooner or later and with the way prices keep going up it might be a good thing to have some "extras". If you get extra "extras" then they are usually easy to pass on at a club meeting or car show flea market.

Re: Am I the only one that does this?

How about ordering a good list of parts only to find out that 1 or more of those parts are not in stock so now you have to call around...

That is when you start calling around to the other parts houses to see if they have it in stock.

I wait for that "look" from my wife when she's checked the bank account and discovers I've "Done it" again!

Vanspeed 03-29-2012 10:47 AM

Re: Am I the only one that does this?

I use my own personal bank account for anything car related, that way I never get the look from my wife.

Re: Am I the only one that does this?

So what was the job and what did you forget? It might seem trivial but a few examples might go a long way in helping others avoid the same pitfall when doing the same job. A lot of times someone taking your order will ask if you need such and such because most people doing the job need that exact thing.

Re: Am I the only one that does this?

When starting to rebuild my vehicle, made a chart for each section of the vehicle ie steering, brakes, electrical, etc. Made a booklet with each of these charts. In each chart was every part needed for the repair, part number, who ordered from, when received and cost. This way did not double order and knew when had everything to do a repair. A lot of the costs for my vehicle was paid for by awards and patents from my employer. BTW was an engineer, so can see the meticulous detail.
