replacing a 32 on-off ignition switch plate

can anyone tell me the trick to installing a new on-off ignition switch plate on a 32 ford. my old one was worn and cut off. the hole in the new switch plate is not large enough for the switch to pass. What am I missing?

If I remember correctly you have to turn the plate sideways and once it is past the bullseye part you can turn it back. Bend it to conform to the shape of the drop at that point. Try to use the original pins to hold it. The repro pins are to large.

Not only too large, but those pins have helical threads, which Ford did use after the 1932 model year. The '32 originals are round-head brass nails without any texture or threads on the shank.

Even when I turn the plate sideway the bullseye part is larger than the hole. Is this a problem with all the reproduction plates?.
