Brake Fluids After replacing the clutch on my 48, I bled the brakes, A few weeks later I again bled the brakes. Yesterday I noticed a partial container of synthetic brake fluid next to the empty container of regular brake fluid. If I indeed added the synthetic to the existing non-synthetic brake fluid, did I create a problem?

Re: Brake Fluids Hello and welcome to the ford barn.
By synthetic, do you mean silicone?? Do the cans have dot numbers on them? If you mixed silicone and regular type, that might be a problem. Mart. |
Re: Brake Fluids Any "synthetic" brake fluid can be mixed since it is all synthetic except silicone - DOT 5 brake fluid can not be mixed with any other. So, if by "synthetic" you actually mean "silicone - DOT 5" you'll need to replace it all. Otherwise, you're OK.

Re: Brake Fluids It is Preston Synthetic DOT 3, so I guess I lucked out.
Thanks |
Re: Brake Fluids I had some experience testing clutch slave cylinders, and they were failing early. I had used dot 3 fluid. I used dot 4 fluid and they went through the test cycle ok. If and when I buy fluid I always pay the extra for the dot 4.

Re: Brake Fluids Dot 3 is the standard brake fluid that has been in use since the 1930's. It can be used in any Ford or C***.
