a Special or Sport coupe?

Take the tops off of a Special (Leatherback) coupe and a Sport coupe....are there any identifyable differences left in the body or are they the same car? [email protected]

Re: a Special or Sport coupe?

Two different body styles altogether. Sport Coupe has top bows and fabric all around down to the belt rail; Special Coupe is built around a metal shell.

No, there was a thread about someone restoring a coupe, but wanting to change from one style to another. I don't recall exactly what he had in mind, but from the replies it wasn't a good idea.

It was going from a Special to a Standard Coupe..

going to look at what is being advertised as a Special coupe however, the top is missing.......was looking for hints as to what might distinguish the two when I get to see it. Apparently, he doesn't have and has never had the top so, we don't really know what it began life as.

It was a Special coupe...regarding the top, only the side were there. And, by the way, it's absolutely AMAZING what prices people will ask for cars that are barely salvageable. You never know until you go look.

I think the pickers made the term, Rusty Gold. A bunch of crap in my opinion, just like 'barn find' is supposed to increase value, big joke!!

Re: a Special or Sport coupe?

A leatherback has a steel roof under the leather/vinyl and a Sport coupe doesn't is how I always was told. Basically a Sport coupe is a convertible that you cannot put the top down.

A leatherback is a dressed up standard coupe.

I think that a 28-29 business coupe has the same roof as a sport coupe except that it's black long/short grain. Same for the oval side window coupe. Correct???
