28 coupe shoulder upholstery panels I am about to install the upholstery in my 28 special coupe. I have attached a picture of the shoulder panels below. My question is: There is a metal brace that runs at a diagonal installed near where the back edge of shoulder panels fit. Are there screws used to secure the back edge of the shoulder panels to the metal braces? There are two holes in each of the metal braces and I am wondering if they are for upholstery fastening screws. I know I need to nail the panel along the latch side of the door post and the top side along the belt rail wood, but is that all the fastening needed?
BTW, what is the best size brads (gauge and length) to use for fastening the upholstery panels to the wood? None came with the kit. Thanks for any help. Rusty Nelson http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...lderpanels.jpg |
Re: 28 coupe shoulder upholstery panels Rusty,
I do not think that there is any "screw" of any sort going into the upholstery panels. Those "holes" you refer to in the metal braces are for the atachment of the wooden slat for the rumble seat side panels. I may be wrong but... Hopefully if I am someone will chime in. Pluck |
Re: 28 coupe shoulder upholstery panels I just did the interior on a 30 coupe, and the kit included screws and cup washers to attach the panels to that angled brace, in the holes you mention. My kit was from Lebaron Bonney, so it came with screws and brads, and all the rest of the hardware.

Re: 28 coupe shoulder upholstery panels My kit came from Classtique in Ham Lake, MN and I have had the kit for 3 years (slow in installing it). My kit had the hog rings for the seats, screws & cup washers for the cowl panels and door clips, but no brads. I am pretty sure there were only 6 screws and cup washers, which is just enough to install the 3 screws in each cowl panel.
