Transmission swap issue My 40 pickup came to me with a 4speed, I wanted to put in a 48 car 3 speed. I just primed the frame and looked at the trans mount, it seemed wide and yes it is the spacing on the truck rear mount is 2 inches wider than the car trans mt. They of course will not interchange, before I make some wierd mounting bracket is there a common way to address this. Thanks

Re: Transmission swap issue My driver for 19 years was a 40 Pickup with the 4Spd & 60 mph speedo & 411 rear. I got a 100mpg speedo & 3spd tranny to convert mine then learned they MFGD 225,000 3spd & APPR0X. 400 4SPD ie. Farm VERSION ie A rare TRUCK. I sold mine in 2009 for top dollar because the buyer concidered it RARE! If you want to go faster with the 4spd you could just change the rear end ratio:) Enjoy!

Re: Transmission swap issue I think you will need the 37-41 rear bearing retainer or mount, I don't have one here to measure the hole spacing but if someone will give the measurement check if it is the same as your 4 speed. Dale

Re: Transmission swap issue Jon,
Do we understand that you want a column shift in your truck rather than a floor shift? Your choice, of course, but just want to verify that you prefer column shift. |
Re: Transmission swap issue Yes i was planning on using the 48 Column shift since I have all the linkage and now a drop. I purchased a 48 tranny and steering wheel and column. At the time i was not aware the spacing was different on the rear mount.

Re: Transmission swap issue deuce5wndw is correct, the 37-41 "78" rear bearing retainer/mount is what you need. Have a extra nice one, $40 including shipping. PM if interested.
