Speaking of Early Engines??

I was reading Jim Parkers post this morning about early engines and was also looking at the pictures.

My engine is stamped CA 1596 which would indicate an early 28. My Canadian Engine Chart indicates that it was made in Mid March 1928.

The boss for the engine number measures about 2 1/4" as can be seen in the photo. Is this correct for a mid March 1928 engine, or has this number been restamped on this block? The stars are plainly visible.

Unfortunately this engine is in my 1930 Coupe. Too bad I don't have the original car!!

Any comments?

Dick

The boss appears to bo the original texture, and would lead me to believe that it is the original number not a restamp. If it were a restamp it would be a flat non textured surface...

Steve; Thanks for your input. It looks like I may have a very early engine. All I have to do now is look for the car that it came out of!!!

Makes you wonder what happened to the original car? The engine was good enough to be reused. Was the engine just swapped out for another, rebuilt and used to swap out another engine?

Dick, you might want to check with Sandy McTavish, he's down your way. Last time I was there he gave me a very early 28 Tudor.... Maybe that's where the the engine came from..

Yah, maybe. I need to talk to him anyway.
