Transition from 7 to 2 tooth steering
 

The judging standards say that the 7 tooth steering gear was fased out in 1929 in favor of the 2 tooth. What steering wheel was used in 1929 on the 2 tooth column? I have heard of people switching the Spark/throtle lever quadrant from a 7 tooth to a 2 tooth and using the 29 steering wheel with a 2 tooth gear. Usually this was to get a little longer stering column. Was that Ford's practice during the transition period?

Ford used the 29 wheel on the 2-tooth through 29 passenger car production.

The 29 wheel used on the 2 tooth gear was a keyed wheel. The 28 wheel was splined. That made the late 29 wheel different from both the 28 and 30-31 as the the 28 and keyed 29 wheels looked the same except for the center. If you want to put a 2 tooth gear in place of the 7 tooth you need the late 29 wheel so it will look stock.

The two tooth steering box was introduced in Feb. 1929 and my 2-23-29 has a 2 tooth box (the first style), but I've never removed the steering wheel to see the hub.
