Patent plate...original ?
 

This was on ebay, is this an original Plate? It looks like it has a different
finish, how do you tell?

It appears it was/is the "real deal" however a visual might need to be confirmed. Vince Falter researched this several years ago and it is all about the numbers.

I don't see how it can be the real deal. It must be aluminum. If it were zinc it would be gray after all these years. Now I certainly can't say they all looked alike but compare it to mine below. Sorry for the crappy pic.

Well there you go. I had been using Vince's info (http://www.fordgarage.com/pages/patentplates.htm) as my search method not realizing there was font differences too. Good to know!!

the one on my '30 is definately aluminum. cant read a thing on it either.
