28 runningboard bolts Has anyone had trouble with the longer 1928 inside runningboard bolts being too short? I have tried a couple parts places and both bolts were about 1/8" to 1/4" too short. The nuts go on, however they only thread on to about half of the nuts threads. I believe there should be about a thread or thread and a half protruding from the nuts. I am using original runningboards and original forged brackets, so that can't be the problem. I guess I could take some carriage bolts and weld a spot on the head and use them, but I would think the early bolt kits would work correctly. Maybe it is like many other repro items, they don't fit well and don't look right.
One additional question: Did the runningboard bolts use lock washers with the nuts? It seems like they should have lock washers. Rusty Nelson |
Re: 28 runningboard bolts Rusty,
Both lengths? Or just? |
Re: 28 runningboard bolts Rusty, I can't speak for the repop bolts but if original bolts don't fit, you might check the bend in the braces. If they are bent up in any way, that will change the fit of the splash shields to running board causing the board to be too high to the back and not resting on the braces as they should. Yes, lock washers were used.

Re: 28 runningboard bolts With the exception of the misprints early on, the parts books indicate it should be 1-3/16" long. It sounds like the repro is 1".

Re: 28 runningboard bolts Bratton's shows bolts of the proper length in their current catalog.
