easy off update Well, I put easy off on the inside of my bell housing and attacked the long built up grease dried hard on the surface. It worked amazingly good. One heavy double coat (needed ventilation right away) and waited one hour. I washed it off with water in my slop sink. Like magic it was like new. Clean bare cast metal. Thanks for the heads up and I hope this helps future restorers with their cleaning worries.

Re: easy off update I did some old crusted-up baking pans with the same stuff, and my wife was very happy!
Leave it on overnight for even better results. Doug |
Re: easy off update If you can get your part in a large garbage bag and spray the easy off on the seal the bag up for 24 hours. it will work great. Clean BBQ grills like this all the time.

Re: easy off update can you paint the part right away or do you still have to degrease it?

Re: easy off update You need to clean all traces of easy-off off the piece or it will cause problems with the new paint.
I usually follow the easy-off with brake-kleen or similar solvent. Soap and warm water work too, but then you'll get flash-rust as it dries. Definitely have to remove any oven-cleaner residue though. SC Frank |
Re: easy off update Easy-Off is also very good for cleaning saw blades and router bits especially after working with cherry or hard maple. May have to scrub with a soft brush like old tooth brush for the really burnt on stuff. Rinse with very hot water and dry with a cotton towel or compressed air. Wear gloves as it is really hard on hands. Do a lot of wood working and carbide thin kerf blades like to get gunky.
