Clutch Pedal Pressure? The other day I took a short piece of 2 x 6 and layed one end against the clutch pedal and pushed on the other end with my bathroom scale. It showed 45 # to push the clutch pedal down to the floor.
Every Halloween I drive a 1949 Chevy 1/2 ton pickup in the Anoka Halloween parade. The clutch is such a nice light pedal to push, and the next time I'm near the truck I'll have to bring my bathroom scale to measure the pedal pressure on it. Just wondering if any pedal pressure has ever been published for the Model A stock single plate clutch? Thanks. |
Re: Clutch Pedal Pressure? I haven't measured the pressure on my tudors clutch, but I can push it down with one hand without too much effort. Only did this on the weekend just gone to remove the steering column.

Re: Clutch Pedal Pressure? I would be very interested in the results on this. My engine rebuilder installed a new pressure plate and it's heavy -like a truck pressure plate. But he tells me it's for a passenger car. Maybe it is and I'm just getting weak in my old age, but it's much heavier than my other A's.

Re: Clutch Pedal Pressure? I believe most pressure plates are being rebuilt with springs that are too heavy. For years I worked on cars that came in restored. It was common for me to roll a car a couple feet fore or aft for some reason and would reach inside to press the clutch with my left hand while moving the shifter in or out of neutral with my right. It was nearly always a bit tough to press the clutch. Then I got my low mileage Fordor and doing so was like V8 clutch!

Re: Clutch Pedal Pressure? On both my A,s ,I have stock PPs with spring center discs.Only mod is 28 multi-disc release lever on one & the other lever altered to same length. With my b-room scale it takes about 22 lbs to push pedal down on both cars-A lot cheaper than going the V8 clutch route! On my B the F-wheel is around 37 #, the A is stock.
