1928 roadster pickup seat

Can anyone show me a photo of a real, original genuine seat for a 28-29 roadster pickup? I knew I was kinda chunky so I expected the steering wheel to be a little close but I think I may have the wrong seat springs in my rpu.I have seen other seats on the internet and they don't appear to be as thick in the back as mine. Here is a photo of what came in mine when I got it.

Regardless of the seat, there is not enough room in there to begin with. JMO

Those seats, probably, are the original, but they look like they have been overstuffed. I bet that someone has put in a thick layer of foam.
You just might have to tear them down to find out.
If they don't work for you, what have you got to lose ?
A few inches, taken out of both cushions, would make a big difference.
Good Luck,
MIKE :)

Mike, when you say "both cushions" do you mean the one in the truck and the one on my belly?? ha ha

I did my 29 RPU years ago without using the sprung backrest.I used 3/4 inch plywood and 3 inch foam.I also made it so it wedged between the bottom cushion and the top wood rail.If you weren't in the know, you wouldn't know.It worked great.I sold the truck to a very tall man,6'6,and he drove it until he passed. When he looked at it I told him I didn't think he would fit in it.I told him to take it home and drive it for a few days,I had other A's and wouldn't miss it myself. He came back a week later and paid me for it.He said once he was in it he was fine.

Thanks Mike and Keith but I would still like to see what an original seat would have looked like. Can't seem t find one.Everyone rebuilds them so that they fit their size. I probably will too but wonder how they looked originally.

I suggest you look at the thread above titled "My Custom Made Model A Trailer" and scroll down to BRENT in 10-uh-c's quick reply. Brent's home page shows a step by step restoration of a '29 rpu. I would bet that Brent can either send you a picture of what you are looking for or guide you to a source. The last number I have for Brent is 423 543 2277. Good luck and please let us see what you find.

This is the real deal. I've posted these pics a number of times. These are actually from a Closed Cab. However, the 76-A Open Cab and 82-A Closed Cab used exactly the same seats.

I should also note it appears your backrest is leaning against the wooden rail. There is a lengthwise groove on the bottom side of that rail and the top rear edge of the cushion is intended to snap back into that groove.

The pics below don't show too much of the seat but this was an LB kit I did for a friend. Their top didn't fit original bows so I had to make that.

Thanks Marco, that helps. Yes, my backrest is leaning against the wood rail. That seat looks like mine but I don't think mine has the snaps that you highlight with arrows. I will have to have another look when it warms up.Perhaps mine is a repro that is overstuffed.I appreciate all the help and info you guys provided.
