Mystery coil? 3 Attachment(s)
While checking some parts today with the J.Std revisions ....I found this slant-poil coil.
Shape & dimensions appear to be your classic Model A coil, except the manufacture's mark MC isn't listed in my book. Does anyone recognize that logo? |
Re: Mystery coil? Wow, Magnito Corp. Who'd a thunk it.
...thanks Vince. I suppose judging this coil (restored) on a fine point car, would carry an almost certain loss of points ...anybody? |
Re: Mystery coil? Is it workable Craig?
Great find. Maybe used in Canada??? Pluck |
Re: Mystery coil? Untested. I do both US and Canadian swap meets & haven't the foggiest idea where I picked it up.
Say...who's got a fast easy way to bench test this thing? |
Re: Mystery coil? Quote:
Connect a condenser across the two primary terminals. Then connect a battery across the two primary teminals. Hold the coil wire 1/4" from either primary terminal while you touch one of the battery wires on and off the primary terminal. You should get a hot blue spark each time you take the battery wire off the terminal. |
Re: Mystery coil? Note that the twin lines on the left side of the circle is open at the bottom forming (loosely) an "A" and the right side closed forming a "B" making it American Bosch Magneto Corp. That is normal. There should be a two digit date code on the bracket (likely containing an "8"). Please let me know what it is.
Thanks... |
Re: Mystery coil? Marco,
My Bosch, slant pole, coil is stamped "8", with a space, then "9" . Ron |
Re: Mystery coil? 3 Attachment(s)
I tested the Magneto Corp coil (as per Tom's instructions) and it makes a good spark. In fact it's the best of 6 coils tested.
Unfortunately there's no date codes. WRONG I just found the code! Hopefully the photos shows it. |
