torque tube seals 1947 Ford Seal number b4245 This seal is for axle shafts and for the torque tube by the speedo drive. Which way is the seal installed. thanks for your help.

Re: torque tube seals Lip should face in on both axle housings and forward on the torque tube. You have to pull that bearling shell in the torque tube to work the seal. It is split and sets on a dimple to hold it fast. Like a bearing shell in a model T axle housing.

Re: torque tube seals Think of the seals as check valves. The lip will lift and allow fluid to pass if pressurized on one side and force it against the axle or driveshaft if pressurized on the other side. Install them so that wheel bearing grease pressure will vent into the differential, and so that differential pressure will vent into the transmission (which is vented at the front.) The whole set up is to keep anything from venting out into the brakes!
