The Ford Assembly Plant In Cleveland

Craig Gorris sent this over and it's glorious... Essentially, it's a 1954 film produced by Ford in an effort to show off Ford's ability to create both jobs and great products.... To read the rest of this blog entry from The Ford Barn, click here.

Just gotta ask: Why did you entitle it ".....Assembly Plant...."? Assembly plants build cars, FOUNDRIES pour iron, ENGINE plants build engines.

The title was given by the guy that uploaded the video.

Its crazy to sit and watch this video. My grandfather, my father and myself grew up in that foundry. We all started when we were 18 and i am the only one still working there. I actually work in the building next door, cleveland engine plant one, where we make a world class ecoboost v6 engine. But now they are tearing that foundry down right now as we speak, due to epa regulations and ford got out of the foundry business and shipped all our work to mexico! Oh well, it was good to watch the video anyways, last year, it still look the same inside as it did in that video. It was like going back in time when you set foot in that foundry. My dad actually ran that sand crane in the begining! Thanks for the video.

Voice-over sounds like Ronald Reagan.

Very cool video. In 9th grade I was in an industrial arts class and one project was to sand cast your last name on a plate. It was a very similar process. That plate has been on my mail box for over 20 years.

Even better story that some one had family that worked there and still works there today. That Eco-Boost is the future:D

Its always interesting to watch those clips.. Funny how you dont see any warning lables or safty signs anywhere. Good ole days for sure. Go into a plant today, sure its safe, but we have gone too far in that sense.

Yeah, I agree to some extent. I remember going thru the Rouge foundry (I can still remember that heat on my face from the red-hot steel bars!) and Wayne Assembly Plant when a kid while on a field trip in the early 60s; no hard hats, no safety glasses - and nobody got hurt.

I think nowadays some figure it's easier to put up signs and litigate after something happens, than it is to teach common sense and accident prevention . .
