Has anyone ever seen this 1933-1934 Ford manifold heater?

I bought a 1934 Ford that comes with a lot of extra parts. This heater, which appears either NOS or restored, came with it. Has anyone ever seen one? It says "remove for summer driving". I do not know if it is a factory option or simply aftermarket.

Most likely aftermarket.

I have one on my 1935 Ford. The heat exchanger replaces the right exhaust manifold and the peice you are holding covers it. It picks up engine fan air and goes through a metal inlet in the firewall. Model A used the same setup. Mine was made by Atlas company.

looks aftermarket.....replace passenger exhaust manifold with what you're holding...sheet metal snorkel attached where your right hand is to get air in, it got heated, went up thru sheet metal tube attached where your left hand is.....that tube ran up into firewall and into inside of car....i think that's correct...Mike

The Ford supplied ones had the heat exchanger below the stock right manifold in a muffler-like can that replaced the crossover pipe assembly and a sort of snorkel-looking tube that ran up front of engine to capture the blast of air from the fan to move air through the exchanger. Later Ford ones used an electric blower in the rig. There are a LOT of versions, with a lot of hookups to front compartment and some accessory hookups to blow into rear...

That is not a Ford accesary heater for 33-34. It is a after market heater. The Ford heaters were made by Novi Corpration.

Here is a original 1933 1934 Ford Heater brochure. It shows some very nice views of the manifold, air inlet pipe, and the floor vent.

I saw one a while ago on ebay that was made by Sunday Manufacturing, they were asking $400 for a NOS. I think it was for a 35/36 and I think I read somewhere that some guy would reproduce one for you.I wonder if anyone might have plans for one, I think I could build one I need one for my 36.

Never seen one, but I bet it works well. We know flatheads produce a lot of heat.

Yes it is for a Model A. If you keep your eye on ebay, there are 4 on there now. The later model ones do show up from time to time. If someone wanted to make one, here's a veiw of another style cut off. This part was mounted in the firewall of the car. It could be opened with cables or closed for the summer by hand.

Here are some photos of the floor vent that was correct for the 1933 1934 Ford factory accessory heater. It was made of cast iron and very heavy. The front grill is pressed steel.
