Valve cover gasket

I am replacing the valve cover gasket on my 36. Is any gasket sealer required or advised?

Some of the old flathead manuals refer the intake manifold as the valve cover and I think that is what he is asking about. I install my intake manifolds dry with the gasket.

Grease both sides of the gasket
